Autumn Travel in Italy

Holidays in Italy (Sweet November), Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)

Besides being the start of the opera and performing arts season in Italy's Top Opera Houses, autumn offers several good performing arts and cultural festivals. Rome's Film Festival, with events and screenings, runs through October 21. Also in Rome, you'll find Romaeuropa, Rome's big festival of theater, music, and dance held in venues throughout Rome during October. One of Italy's biggest world music festivals, Musica dei Popoli, continues in Florence through November 21.
There are a number of reasons to travel to Italy in autumn. Besides the cultural festivals, there are some great fall food festivals. In restaurants you'll often find fall menus including such culinary treats as truffles and wild mushrooms. Fall is the harvest season for olives and grapes and you'll often find wine festivals.

Fall travel means fewer tourists so less time spent waiting in lines. Restaurants and shops in the cities that were closed for vacation in August have reopened. In many parts of Italy, especially along the coast and in the countryside, you'll find some off-season prices, too.
